The World Veterans Federation has two divisions created to exchange information and expertise. They will have their separate sessions during the Congress, which will include well-known keynote speakers and a panel of experts in their respective fields.

Peace and Security Session

As part of the original mission and in good cooperation with the United Nations, the WVF should become the cornerstone and promoter of international peace and security. Therefore, a WVF Peace and Security Division was established, which has operated as a promoter of peace and human rights, in line with the WVF Constitution and, where possible, will take an active role in the mediation of conflict zones. The WVF will also play an important role in activities for victims of war and refugees.

The areas to be covered in the Peace and Security Session will be:

  • The UN project Right to Peace
  • Military peace keeping activities
  • Cooperation between humanitarian organizations and military peacekeeping
  • Peacekeeping in the Middle East
  • Experiences from a military peacekeeper
  • Global Veteran Peace Training Initiative
  • Commemoration activities
  • Introducing the World Veterans Federation Peace Prize

Health and Welfare Session

Since the early days of the pioneers in research and treatment of persons suffering from social, psychological and psychiatric late effects of wartime experiences, a vast body of knowledge has been developed. The number of specialists and publications has increased dramatically, and so have the methods of disseminating scientific information and sharing knowledge. Therefore, the aims of the Health and Welfare Division are to provide WVF members with up-to-date (scientific) information including statistics on all matters related to veteran affairs. In the future, we hope to establish a research and development unit in this Division. The Health and Welfare Division will promote the exchange of information in this network and it will stimulate cooperation aimed at developing methods and programmes to strengthen the health and welfare of veterans.

The areas to be covered in the Health and Welfare Session will be:

  • Military psychiatry and the treatment and rehabilitation of veterans’ mental illness
  • Post traumatic stress disorder treatments / Combat stress
  • Rehabilitation through sports
  • Rehabilitation through meaningful projects
  • Military veterans support
  • Follow-up to legislation
  • Veterans and their relatives

The recipients of the WVF Rehabilitation Prize will be awarded during the Health and Welfare Session.
